The South Asia Regional Programme of the Housing and Land Rights Network based in New Delhi is looking for capable, committed, hard-working, and energetic individuals for the following positions and internships:

1. Programme Officer:

Location: New Delhi

Role: To develop, implement and help manage the South Asia Regional Programme of HLRN in Delhi.

Required Skills: A strong commitment to promoting social justice and human rights.
  1. At least three years experience in human rights, social justice or related areas, with a good knowledge of economic, social and cultural rights
  2. A university degree, preferably at the postgraduate level.
  3. Fluency in both spoken and written English and at least one South Asian language is essential. Knowledge of other languages relevant to the region will be an advantage.
  4. Self-motivated and well-organised, with writing and oral communication skills of a high order and a facility with e-mail communication
  5. Strong field research and documentation skills.
  6. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, to deliver under pressure, and to meet strict deadlines.
  7. Willingness to do field work, and to travel regularly, including to rural areas, and to participate in fact-finding missions, often in difficult circumstances
  8. Ability to network, communicate with partners and do advocacy work.
In addition, the following skills would be beneficial:
  • Experience living and working in the region.
  • Experience and knowledge of housing, land and livelihood issues is an advantage, as is previous work with communities facing social exclusion.
  • Computer skills.
  • Experience working with the media.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

2. Research Associate:

Role: To assist with and carry out independent and collaborative research projects aimed at promoting the human rights to adequate housing and land in South Asia.

Required Skills: A strong commitment to promoting social justice and human rights.
  1. One or two years experience in human rights, social justice or related areas.
  2. A university degree, preferably at the postgraduate level.
  3. Fluency in both spoken and written English and at least one South Asian language is essential.
  4. Self-motivated and well-organised, with writing and oral communication skills of a high order and a facility with e-mail communication.
  5. Strong field research and documentation skills.
  6. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, to deliver under pressure, and to meet strict deadlines.
    The Research Associate will report to the Coordinator and will work closely with the Associate Coordinator and other staff members.
  7. Willingness to do field work, and to travel, if necessary.
  8. Ability to network, communicate with partners and do advocacy work
